How do they differ from steel tip darts?

The plastic point of a soft tip dart screws into the barrel, usually with a standard 2BA thread. Soft tip darts are generally lighter than steel tip darts, because heavy darts damage the plastic points and the electronic board more quickly. With the same barrel, shaft and flight, a soft tip dart otherwise plays much like a steel tip dart.

What to look for

• Weight: most soft tip darts weigh between 16 and 20 grams. Beginners often choose 18 grams.
• Material: 90% tungsten gives a slim barrel at the same weight, so your darts group more tightly on the board.
• Shape: a straight barrel gives the same grip along its length, a tapered barrel puts more weight towards the front.
• Grip: from a smooth barrel to a heavy grip. A firmer grip helps with dry or sweaty hands.
